Don't try to post process a series of images out in the field.  You should use your field time to capture as many images as you can.  Between unexpected rain or dew that can damage your equipment, take all your equipment inside before starting post processing.  Also, you will find that the colors are not very true with LCDs.  Plazma is best - I like my 50" Sony.  A 17" or 19" CRT provides more realistic color and shades of gray.
